these days

as I grumpily descend
front steep stoop steps
ignoring grumbling knees,
falling leaves sing breezily

Autumn seems to have missed
its cue, having greedily begun
grabbing leaves early from trees
leaving them bereft, vacant eyed

My elephantine gait crunches
these fallen from grace leaves
underfoot as sudden errant winds
lift them, waltzing giddily in air

Autumn brings mischief, mayhem
and even though it marks passing
of season’s baton, it wreaks havoc
in minor miserable allergy storms

life being life, shall weather
as best as can be, undeterred
carrying on with usual business of
living sniffling, sniveling, laughing
stoop- front stairs of a brownstone building
