The Beam

When I am at the end of my rope
Life has driven me to despair n dope
In darkness of clouds I feebly grope
You shine a ray of light, a beam of hope
Redeeming, salvaging, to face life n cope

I am not Samson of biblical times for sure
Weak, easily led am I by glitzy sinful lures
Spiraling into an abyss of flesh n vices allure
Propelling self to hell, vainly I seek a savior
True friend, like pillar of strength you conjure

Bad luck, worse choices and fair weather friends
All come to roost showing true color, scary portends
Baffled, flailing at windmills, wishing to make amends
Appease dear ones, I spurned and hurt to forgive, bend
You shine a beam of light kindling hope to rise n transcend

You are after all my hope, my strength, my ray of light
Stabilizing me in my constant journey, my own floodlight
A kite, when I fly, you are the string, steering my flight
In this body, you are soul, if I am the eyes, you the sight
Thy grace shall let me journey up to thee, in my space flight

It is his capacity for self-improvement and self-redemption which most distinguishes
man from the mere brute.AUNG SAN SUU KYI, Freedom from Fear

O, if there be any kind of life most sad, and deepest in the scale of pity, it is the dry,
cold impotence of one, who has honestly set to the work of his own self-redemption.
      – Horace Bushnell

It may be — I hope it is — redemption to guess and perhaps perceive that the universe,
the hell which we see for all its beauty, vastness, majesty, is only part of a whole
which is quite unimaginable. –WILLIAM GOLDING, A Moving Target

Understanding and tenderness would arise among us no matter how bad things got,
and we found redemption in the very places we hurt most.
LIN JENSEN, Bad Dog!

How did you know that what you sought was redemption and not righteous vengeance?
PETE ABRAMS, Sluggy Freelance, Nov. 22, 2004

The recognition of pain and fear in others give rise in us to pity, and in
our pity is our humanity, our redemption.
DEAN KOONTZ, Velocity

Redemption comes to those who wait, forgiveness is the key.
TOM PETTY, Lonesome Sundown

Redemption can be found in hell itself if that’s where you happen to be.
LIN JENSEN, Bad Dog!
