FORTUNE COOKIE

FORTUNE COOKIE
After an interesting meal
Of dumplings, fried rice and corn soup
I lifted and tore apart the plastic wrapper
suffocating the imprisoned fortune cookie
Ignorant about THE treasure that was on the
Verge of trickling out of its crumbled mouth
it’s back broken into two pieces by sticky
twosomes of thumbs and forefingers
I picked up the tiny gem of Chinese wisdom
Printed on a white rectangular scrap of paper
Feasted my ready to believe eyes on it and read,
” Today, your mouth might be moving but no one is listening!”
Chagrined I ate the cookie shell washing it down by a cup
of green tea making mincemeat out of the fortune that
had the audacity to advise that whatever I may utter today will
be wasted as the usual eavesdroppers would not be around!
