Unquenched, the robust overflow of my love lay
Dehydrated on the uncaring lanes of indifference
Caked and parched it withered a slow burnout
Sifting through the ashes I lifted the bones of my love
Placed it in the urn of my spent dreams ready for burial
Digging a deep ditch of my lost hopes, I lowered
The coffin of my one sided love wailing deep inside
Bewildered and hurt I wondered what had gone wrong
Was I a mere stepping stone for a leg up to new heights
That you scaled up me, the escalator to your soaring ambition
Besotted and deaf to the blatant exploitation of my blind love
My innocent love’s betrayal was the unkindest cut of all
That you played with a masterly touch, fast and loose
Empty, hurt, bewildered, the pieces of my scattered dignity
Shredded and tattered beyond redemption I stitched stoic
With stiff upper lip stonewalling all those nay Sayers
Tears in two rivulets marked lackluster cheeks dried n salty
A bearer of sorry saga of unrequited love gone south
Venting my grief by gouging the pavement with my toe
I sat forlorn and morose on the steps leading to our love tryst
When strong hands hugged me tight from behind murmuring
Sweet nothings invoking those never to be forgotten playtime
Years, those halcyon days of childhood with a soul mate pal
A confidante, a partner in crime, a sweetheart long lost, gone
Overseas forgotten in the sands of time for countless years
Miracle of miracles, he had found me wallowing in the depths
Of my self loathing and knew exactly the right things to say
As always eliciting those irrepressible peals of laughter
Lifting me on a wave of sheer joy and infinite peace inside
Holding me close to his loving bosom, cherished and loved
We had lost and found each other once again, a perfect circle
I had come home, my love had found me on Valentine’s Day
My sadness I let go like a discarded diseased layer of skin
Breathing happy inhalations from new pores freshened by love
This was my wonderful gift
From my love,
For my love
On Valentine’s Day!!!
True love comes quietly, without banners or flashing lights.
If you hear bells, get your ears checked.
Erich Segal American, Novelist
True love cannot be found where it does not exist,
nor can it be denied where it does.
Torquato Tasso Italiian, Poet
For true love is inexhaustible; the more you give, the more
you have. And if you go to draw at the true fountainhead,
the more water you draw, the more abundant is its flow.
Antoine De Saint-Exupery 1900-1944, French Aviator
On the streets, unrequited love and death go
together almost as often as in Shakespeare.
Scott Turow American, Novelist
We love even when our love is not requited.
Mortimer Adler American, Philosopher
