Nostalgia

A dry rose nestling gently in the covers of a book
Brings back a whole plethora of memories rushing in
The heart and mind fly away on the wings of time

Happy memories come knocking n bring instant cheer
Childhood is reclaimed as time stands still in this warp
The endless games of hopscotch, skipping, hide n seek

Scraped knees, torn dresses, tear streaked cheeks
An armful of stolen fruit from the neighbor’s tree
A ball, a length of pink ribbon, some shiny trinkets

All priceless treasures of childhood come visiting
Bringing a flash of happiness banishing cares
A nostalgia for days gone by grips when life was carefree

No responsibilities, no meals to cook, no mouths to feed
No work, no drudgery, no cares, no worries, no dates
Just a perfect childhood full of birthdays and ice-creams

Nostalgia takes hold of me for those sunny beautiful
Days of yonder when life was simple, and full of wonder
A quest of discovery and learning of life’s mysteries

The trip down memory lane was great while it lasted
Nostalgia is always triggered when we come across
Certain things or events that correlate to days gone by

I gently shut my book after touching the dry rose gingerly
All the time smiling for all the good times gone by and
My lifted spirit is full of vigor, liveliness and bounce!

“We have all got our ‘good old days’ tucked away inside our hearts, and we return to them in dreams like cats to favorite armchairs.”
-Brian Carter
