Fifteen long years

You were my best friend

Undemanding

Accepting  whatever

Crumbs of affection

I threw your way

You somersaulted and

whoofed in sheer ecstacy

Each time I scratched

You with affection

Your appreciation far outweighed

My attention  span.

Goodbye placid friend

We miss your beautiful

Expressive eyes with

Brows peaked trying to

Understand the human tongue

You never complained

But gently chided whenever

You disapproved

We took you for granted

And now the empty space

Your loss has left behind

In our hearts, is hard to fill

No other pet can replace you

Rest in peace gentle friend

Till we all meet again.
