Lonely Hearts Club
Suffering work time at a frenzied pace
The foursome met up at their favorite place
Abandoned failed love, of joy, nary a trace
Shared unhappiness, seeking life with grace
Planning together forays into love territory
Concocting harebrained schemes, quite crazy
Various formulas bandied about, cool and corny
With perfect timing, to undertake, schemes zany
One got a petty thief to dupe the gal he fancied
Enabling him to punch him out and succeed
Second had his object of affection rudely jostled
And then he grabbed and saved her as she toppled
Third being of different ilk, sent his lady love
Roses, box of chocolates with bow of golden silk
Fourth sent his love, bottle of her favorite perfume
Having gleaned the same from her erstwhile groom
Little did they guess or have any inkling
Same ladies had clubbed together, bonding
They had targeted them as well for plucking
Similar ploy plotted for their ultimate downing
Thus success was doubly assured as both parties
Turned tables on the other, after several parleys
Now who beat whom is a matter of heated opinions
Clubs are now gleeful with brand new companions
We are never so defenseless against suffering as when we love,
never so forlornly unhappy as when we have lost our love object or its love.
Sigmund Freud
1856-1939, Austrian Physician – Founder of Psychoanalysis
I cannot exist without you – I am forgetful of every thing but seeing you again
- my Life seems to stop there – I see no further. You have absorb’d me. I have
a sensation at the present moment as though I were dissolving… I have been
astonished that Men could die Martyrs for religion – I have shudder’d at it -
I shudder no more – I could be martyr’d for my Religion – Love is my religion -
I could die for that – I could die for you. My creed is Love and you are its
only tenet – You have ravish’d me away by a Power I cannot resist.
John Keats
