Life Changers

Right from day one
Some will say a girl has come

Boys often given preference
Girls placed second for chance

Unknowingly this feeling creeps in
Gender preferences makes a home within

Self worth to measure up at home n abroad
A constant struggle waged within n without

Pressures galore to fit in, get accepted ever more
Chipping inner worthy self, eroding furthermore

Self confidence dissipating replaced by false bravado
Fronts shielding mauled spirits inside masks pseudo

To regain self worth recovery on war footing undertaken
Wise counsel of a savant for a quick turn around partaken

Unlearning years of layered ignominies and tongue bites
Giving free rein to independent thought for needed respite

Daily hugging, loving and forgiving self, nothing to lack
Brow beating by near or far ones shaken off as duck’s back

STAND TALL
Be strong and proclaim

I am invincible, I am strong
I am lovable, worthy lifelong
