I Am Invincible

I was innocent once
I loved all
And was in awe
Of it all
Then the vulture struck
I was helpless in its claws
Yet my innocence was
Intact, as always
Life giveth
Life taketh
And amidst it all
I came of age
Now being a woman
Came to mean something
And I became a mother
And a caregiver
Yet my innocence
Continued without respite
Near and dear ones
Exploited at will
Crisis came
Crisis was weathered
Now life did 360 turn
And I came into my own
SuppressedĀ  personal injuries
Surfaced seeking balm
demanding cosseting and instant
Now these cannot be ignored
I have to find release and
Free these caged birds of
Past hurts to heal
Thus now swabbed and healed
I can again be a caregiver and
A force to reckon with
But on my own terms!!!

I am a woman
I can be anything
I can do anything
I am invincible!

When you have once seen the glow of happiness on the face of a beloved person, you know that a man can have no vocation but to awaken that light on the faces surrounding him. In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.
Albert Camus, French existentialist author & philosopher (1913 – 1960)
