Greed
This monster
I have seen
In many a form
All vying for top dollars
Each knifing the other
With subtlety n finesse
The fleeced lamb
Being none the wiser!
As an onlooker
I’ve been stunned
Time n again
By the sheer
Hypocrisy
By the inane
Banter
By the wheels
Turning
By the gray matter
Churning
By the continuous
Concoction
Of schemes
To win this race
To best the others
And by same token
Stroking
Those in power
Squashing
The nonentities
All brashness
Boorishness
Acceptable
In this jungle
Of no holds barred
With the survival
Of only the fittest!
There is no calamity greater than lavish desires.
There is no greater guilt than discontentment.
And there is no greater disaster than greed.
Lao-tzu, The Way of Lao-tzu
Chinese philosopher (604 BC – 531 BC)
