falsely gilded pharaoh
falsely gilded pharaoh
daybreak, as night
folds its blanket
I resurrect post
petit mort
biting winds taunt
December’s ascending orange
sucking its juice, rendering
toothless tiger
standing outside, across the street
falsely gilded pharaoh, mocks
my glassy cocoon and pouts
like Saharan sand dunes
I recall my mesmeric fascination
with mummies, scrolls, papyrus
and majestic Sphinx snout less, that
cannot thumb its nose, timeless
Nile often beckons after shuteye
and ancient memories take me
by the hand through deja vu cobbled
streets of a homeland that was mine
