Dreams of Today's Girl Child

My eyes are full of dreams
I am the girl child of today
I can dare to dream, real dreams
Not daydreams of yesterday

I can fly sky high into space
I can dive deep into oceans
I can climb snowy virgin peaks
I can travel to coldest Antarctic

I can stand shoulder to shoulder with any man
I am a woman of today- can live with great élan
I can beat all tyranny- any demeaning plan
With finest mind, I can defeat any contrary game plan

I am a girl child of today
Let me reach my full potential
Metamorphosize into a flower in full bloom
Delicate, strong, beautiful, fragrant

I am the future of humanity
Stunt not my growth because
If you chop my flying wings
You will crash your morrow

I am the primal force, not a toy
I am the womb of creation
My hand rocks the cradle
I am man’s real salvation!!

You may chisel a boy into shape, as you would a rock, or hammer him into it,
if he be of a better kind, as you would a piece of bronze. But you cannot
hammer a girl into anything. She grows as a flower does.
John Ruskin
1819-1900, British Critic, Social Theorist
