The Orange Lizard
It lay supine
On its hind
Abandoned
Forlorn
Torn from
Tiny hands
Enticed by
Ice-cream cone

Mom’s Fairytale
A good Lizard
Once gave its
Life to save an
Orphan child
Jealous step mother
Ugly as sin
Forced Annie to drink
Poisoned milk
Delighted the hungry
Child stuck out skinny arm
When Good Samaritan
Lizard leapt forward to warn
Drowned in poisoned milk
That flew out of Annie’s grip
She tripped, lizard fell out
Dead, saving girl from it
Chastened Annie, never
Trusted step mom again
Grateful to her savior whom
She tried to revive in vain
Sweet Annie now plays with garden
Lizards, tenderly tending to them
Birds too come for their share
Of her love and innocence
That is why lizards
Now change color
When danger is near
Becoming chameleons dear
(on my way home from work I saw an orange lizard (plastic)on the pavement hence this poem..)

My Serenity
Enemies beat at walls
Crisis brews amid palls
Carved inroads in equanimity
Serenity beats back implacably
Alarm bells harangued, trill,
Emergency reels strong willed
Grace and acceptance seesaw
Hope stays , mind hum haws
Perfidy’s wound in back declared foul
Serenity says it will heal, do not scowl
Life is but a dream, not a reality,
A Fixated mind knows life’s fallacy
Aligned mind, body, spirit maintain
Serenity, that cannot be detained

What color is disappointment?
The hand that
Loved you
Turns on you
Coloring blue
Tears unshed
Saline streaks
White saying hold
Tight, cannot adieu
Green of envy
Doves in droves
Streaming by
Taunting you
Yellow of
Desperation as
Other options
Unappetizing
Dark color
Of Judas lurking
In us all- adding
Its two cents
Red tears, puffy
Spent cheeks pink
Bloated nose askew
Whiny phlegm
Blue, white, green
Yellow, black, red
Pink- whirl twirl all
That is the Hue
True color of
Disappointment
Is finally that, I say

Spice Bazaar
(Turkey)
brilliant pungent pices
Smoky red, muted earth,
Greens captive in plastic pouches
Holding hands tight,
spices hang in rioting streamers
A dash, a smidgeon
In marinated food,
forces taste buds
A mountain of dehydrated
Desiccated fruits veggies
jostled amongst glassy blue eyed nazars*
Let me help spend your money”
Startled I glanced at his shop
I beat a quick retreat
Dragged by spouse
Emerging empty handed
*Nazars: they are blue color glass eyes found all over Turkey to ward off evil covetous looks
