Circle Of Love
Circle Of Love
Our ship had docked and we decided to explore.
Sandy was native Alaskan. I, Sonia was from New York. We’d met at a summer camp, fallen in love and got married. That was five years ago.
A friend hailed Sandy but I decided to explore further- we decided to meet at the dock in a couple of hours.
I found a lookout point from where I could feast on the glaciers which drew me. I was joined by an elderly stranger. He told me a lovely folktale of this point.
Aaleahya was native Alaskan. She loved Iqniq (fire) the chief’s son. They were to wed next full moon day. Meanwhile their village got attacked by white man and Iqniq was killed. Aaleahya was sad. She came to this point nightly and stared at the glaciers. She died of a broken heart. Visitors often saw Aaleahya and Iqniq’s spirits embracing here. Stranger showed her his locket with their faces. She saw Sandy and herself staring back!

A word, a nuance
A look, a glance
Few lines, verse,
A haiku, gesture
A hug, a shrug
And
Then
A
Breach!
Floodgates of
Memory’s oil spill
Inundates mind
A raging virus
Attacks scabs of time
Prods and pokes
Mind from
Position
Fetal
Hurtful memories
Loss of loved ones
Fights, slights
Aborted flights
Mini wars,
Big wars
Tragedies
Attacks
Confront
Cornered I put up hands
Shield head body
Mind bared begs
Mercy piteously
Silently screaming
Halt this gush
As it will crush
Me unless I go
Fetal again

The Ancinet Cave
Deeply embedded in snow
Electric eye mesmerizing
In waves azure, mystical
Primordial sounds emanating
Tingling aura, hymns, bells
Pealing, appealing
Tugging at the heart
Stirring buried links
Soul beckoning
Déjà vu astonishment
Familiar and yet not so
Weather beaten pathways
The ancient cave
Ancestral haven
Magnetic
Waves rippling
Dreaming with eyes
Inwards opening
What is dream?
What is real?

The Monk
To free my mind
I sit to unwind
Detached from tree
A mere leaf I be
Can hold them nor me
Time and tide I ever be
Stilling mind I sit still
Lotus pose daily drill
Mind’s activity to abate
Ever wiping its slate
Detached thoughtless
Purposeless- nirvana
To free mind
I sit to unwind
A monk I be!!
Note: last year during our Alaska cruise- in the glaciers we saw a huge opening and it was a glowing blue in color- it sent tingles down my spine even though I joked that Superman is going to fly out of it! I was trying to capture the feel.
Lover's Tryst
Every full moon night she wails
For her lover
~~
Lovers Tryst
Drenched in love
Soaking moonlight
Technicolor dreams
Lined silvery bright
Hotfooting in thick mist
She had kept her tryst
Cupid had shot her a grievous blow
Had felled her by an alien elbow
The elbow had belonged to an Adonis
Crestfallen he’d cried mercy, blown a kiss
Tears streaming she’d suddenly smiled
Falling headlong in love sans any guile
They kept their trysts where they’d first met
On full moon day by lake and branch lunette
They made plans and wove golden dreams
Eyes ecstatic despite inimical bloodstreams
Six moonlight trysts later this was their seventh
Families sworn enemies and their love at zenith
Fearful fluttering heart desperate searching eyes
She waited for lover with prayer on quivering lips
Midway to rendezvous brother and lover clashed
Steel to steel rang out that fateful perfidious night
They slashed one another, life ebbing out of both
She languished on tree trunk waiting for betrothed
Thus she awaits her lover every full moon night
A piteous wail rising out of waters silvery bright
Unrequited love never allowed her soul to depart
Eternally waiting for lover, fate had pulled apart
They say souls of these ill fated lovers do meet
Every full moon by shimmering lake and mesquite
~~
Mesquite: hard wood (tree)
Lunette: crescent
