Spidery wraithlike
Tentacles spreading
Rapidly, insinuating
Alarming no end

How to stay calm
Cool and collected
Unperturbed and
Very nonchalant

Not happening.
Stomach caving
Sleep on the trot
Pressure building

Clutching straws
I delve deeply
Digging out dregs
Of reluctant courage

To wear it as a badge
To hold the flag high
Unsuccessfully killing
Resident belly butterflies!!!

That’s the secret to life… replace one worry with another….

A Tryst With Destiny

She crossed the gnarled palm with silver
gazing excitedly into the crystal ball
the shadowy murkiness slowly dissipated
she beheld her lover under the eaves of
the old church tower with herself
the cypress drooping n swaying casting
silvery shadows,the moonlight creating
glowing patterns in her golden hair…
Now she scanned her dreams frantically
to keep her Tryst with destiny……..
Childhood memories seeped thru n she saw
the church tower near grandma’s house
the old cypress playing hide n seek with
the moonlight,an owl hooting in the hush
of night, crickets,grasshoppers holding
endless conversations, a mouse darting,
the Toad, self appointed town crier, all
tiptoed into her consciousness and past recollections and now she knew
her lover was waiting n she had to
keep her Tryst with destiny….

It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.

What God writes on your forehead you will become.
The Koran
c. 500 AD, Islamic Religious Bible

We are not permitted to choose the frame of our destiny. But what we put into it is ours.
Dag Hammarskjold
1905-1961, Swedish Statesman, Secretary-general of U.N.

Silent screams rise and fall

With the ebb tide of my fears

In the pit of my sinking stomach

Creating an uproar of sorts

Fear and uncertainties of life

Have been born out of gloomy

Predictions by the soothsayer

Who warns direly, taking his tithe

Rational thoughts try a comeback

Unsuccessfully, being prevailed upon

By irrational fear of calamities yet

To befall or not as future is unknown

Why die several deaths in anticipation

I ask myself again and again, in vain

The disconnect between head and heart

Is too great, and that is my life’s bane!

Am trying to rise above this gloom

And doom which may all be untrue

And not happen, for the very essence of

Life is to live each moment to the brim

Anguish of mind has driven thousands to suicide; anguish of body, none. This proves that the health of the mind is of far more consequence to our happiness, than the health of the body, although both are deserving of much more attention than either of them receive.
C. C. Colton

 I miss your great strength

I miss your resourcefulness

I miss your spontaneous cackle as

There was nothing you could not tackle

Any challenge that life threw your way

You met it head on with nary a sway

You always came through for me, without fail

Now I feel bereft without you and rant and wail

From the rich ore of our memories, I have now mined and

Strung, a necklace with all the gold nuggets that I could find

I have bid adieu to all the sadness and any lingering bitterness

Cherishing just our enduring love, mutual affection and dearness

Your memory is still quite fresh and leafy green

Time has not taken its toll nor robbed its sheen

Your hospitality was legendary

And you entertained all and sundry

You were my big sister and I loved you

But came to know how much only after I’d lost you!!!

An older sister helps one remain half child, half woman.  ~Author Unknown
An older sister is a friend and defender – a listener, conspirator, a counsellor and a sharer of delights.  And sorrows too.  ~Pam Brown

The Progeny

The fluid in our veins is the same in

As much you came out my whole

To become a whole of your own

There the similarity ends, sort of

Yet small semblances of looks abound

Fleetingly giving glimpses of origin

The strength of my maternal love and will

Was neither tensile nor tough to mold and

Give you a regulated sense of direction

You forged ahead on your own, taking lead

From the environment, people and

Prevailing events occurring at that time

Now, you are straight as an arrow, yet

You bend when needed and are kind and

Gentle to a certain degree but no more

Your flaws make you unique as they

Are your very own, growing out of your

Evolving process, lending character

The end product is not of my making

Yet you fill me with pride for your

Uniqueness which came to be, on its own
