state of mind

this caged bird
that is my heart
often beats hard, fast
nursing an old ache
that defies labels
elusive in its
exclusivity
tantalizing
for ever
and ever

time’s ebb

~
racing against time
leaning on its blind side
you lit your life
at both “ends”
now poised
between colon, semi colon
you had hastily punctuated
contained tsunami
of unsaid
in tidy pages
dictating
as life, imminent death
dictated to you
it was a photo
finish…
this race
our place
in it
as
it
ended
with
His infinite
grace

awake at wee hour of three

awake at wee hour of three

i drink first cup of tea
thirsty ears seek sounds of silence
heart harkens distant drum beats

second cup of tea
revs sluggish veins
heart maintains pace with drum beats

third cup of tea
makes me finally rise from my seat
fully alive in each pore of my being

soft morning light stealthily tip toes
in through floor to ceiling bay windows
windows to my soul glance at melted snow

such is way of life, things
being to non being
always in passing

stilled

color
coordinated
by chance
i seldom
take up a stance
well taught
by fluid life
just go on
flowing
waxing
waning
with inner
perfectly
stilled

another time, another place

IMG_1147

another time
another place
when chilled air
slapped face
opening eyes further
into the advancing
day on verge
of happening
~
you
intook
series of quick
inhalations
smartened by martinet
brisk air
non-relenting
~
today
different place
different time
crueler frosty air
trigger ready
happily
biting
~
snuggling
under layers
in layers
I OD
on
just
about
everything
