Box of Candy

“Black as the devil, hot as hell, pure as an angel, sweet as love.”

~That’s recipe for coffee, by utterly French statesman Talleyrand (1754-1838)

Box of Candy

Eagerly dipped hand
Extracted single candy
Ate coffee bean dressed
In chocolate skirt dandy

Scrunch munch
Bitter and sweet
Both flavors diverse
Just as life, perverse

Eager reined in hand pulled
Out a second candy wrapped
In yellow tinted cellophane
A tart lemon drop, profane

Eyes crinkled at its sharp tartness
Throat sucked belly, green lime taste
Created a flavorful uproar in belly
Yelled, “Ach mein Gott”, no more

Third dip was a trip
Pulled out a toffee
My sluggish morning body
Was craving strong coffee

Hastily set aside boxed candy
Lit snoozing coffee machine
that soon drip dripped percolated
Aromatic strong Java Joe coffee
