Arthur- about a man and his dog

The old man and dog
Down our block, a recluse
And pushy me his only
Exclusive at the “hello” Neighbor

Arthur and his pet dog Honey,
Honey and Arthur- know not
Who was the real lynchpin
To other as life rocked and rolled

I always met him holding
A half read book in one hand
A grocery bag in other or else
Walking Honey to the nearest tree

The old man and dog
Down our block, a recluse
And pushy me his only
Exclusive at the “hello”Neighbor

Have not seen them in weeks
Maybe months and this fills me
With concerned trepidation for
Both of my hairy friends

Downcast with these thoughts
On a fierce sunny work day, I saw
Across the street, seated at the bus-stop
A huge man grooving like a slab of jello

Then it struck me like a bolt of lightening
Happily I dare say, “What if in these heated
Times, both had become clean shaven and
Now hide in broad daylight in full view

I have only met them at their hairy best
Now how can I recognize them in their
Nouveau to the skin sheared glory? Comforting
Thought this, as it could mean they are dandy fine

The old man and dog
Down our block, a recluse
And pushy me his only
Exclusive at the “hello”
Neighbor
